Do you usually obey the speed limit or drive a lot faster?

I obey speed limits and preach at anyone I'm driving with to do the same. You can't rely on brakes to be able to stop suddenly - there is always a chance that they will fail and were a child to run out in front of me and I hurt them, I'd never be able to forgive myself. Better safe than sorry. Lives are too valuable to be taken due to excessive speed by yourself or someone else.

I'd never forget that either, Hush. Mike and I are always telling people in our neighborhood to stop at the stop signs and not speed through them. There are many children in our neighborhood, and we'd hate to see one hit or killed by someone who was careless. And how could anyone live with that?

So true, Hush. I appreciate your response and hope everyone reads this and remembers to be more careful when driving.

Hi Claudia, I don't think I ever told you this but I hit a child on a bicycle many years ago. He came off a hill in front of me and I was only going about 20 miles an hour at the time. He was a 15 year old who thought it was FUN to play chicken with tractor trailers and cars on the streets of the town I was living in. The Police Officer and people in town said that they were sooo happy it was me who hit him and one of the many IDIOTS who sped through our town. I had nightmares for many months afterwards because I hit a child through no fault of my own. There were no charges filed because there were witnesses, but I still tell myself that had I killed that child I'd be living with it right now. He wasn't seriously hurt, Thank God...but I'll never forget!

When I am in city limits, I always obey the speed limit. When I am on the highway or interstate my speed exceeds the speed limit if I am the only car around. If I am within traffic, I just keep up with everyone. Going slower than surrounding traffic, even if they are speeding can cause an accident - the same goes for going faster. It just depends, really - I never put myself or anyone else in a compromising situation due to my speed, though. I used to date a policeman, so I have seen and heard of too many accidents d/t excessive speeding, and lack thereof...there HAS to be a happy medium.

I used to drive faster than the speed limit when I was younger, but now I follow the speed limit. It is much safer.

it depends, if i'm driving on a highway, i tend to drive a lot faster and if it's at the town area where there's a lot of car, i tend to drive at a moderate speed.

I try to stay around the 80mph mark myself. We have a tollway and the speed limit is 75. But if you have a 100 club sticker on your car you can go as fast as you want =P

What is a "100 club sticker"? I've never heard of one of those.

I used to check the speed limit which is displayed on the side of the roads and try to maintain atleast 5 km less than the prescribed. It is always good if you concern about your safety

I obey the limit , especially now that I have a daughter. I don't want to endanger my family nor do I want to endanger others. Getting into an accident is something I never want to happen. God Bless

I try to still be sensible about my driving, but I am very likely to go at least a little faster than the speed limit. This is easy for me to do without meaning to because my car is so quiet and smooth that driving 60 feels like maybe 35.

I go the speed limit. I don't want to put myself or anyone else in danger. Not worth the risk with as many crazy drivers taht they have out there anyway as it is. I'd use a bike, but not with the people that drive crazy like they do.

Unless you're being careless, they usually won't stop you for driving 5 miles over the speed limit. Thanks for responding.

I follow all the rules of the road. I am in no hurry to get to the cemetery. I have never been in a hurry to do anything that didn't merit doing so. I always make sure I start out on a trip to get where Im going on time by leaving 10 or 15 minutes than necessary. My step father drilled this into my head when he was teaching me how to drive and it has served me well for over 50 years.....at least I'm still alive...

I drive the speed limit, I am too afraid to be pulled over by the Police. I use my cruise control and stay at the speed limit, my husband however, he is a speed demon.

In my "mis-spent" youth I did have a lead foot, but then with age and a child I realised it was time I showed some maturity and set an example, so I slowed down. It did pay dividends too, because our son is now a very careful driver. If I know that he is driving over the limit, I get very vocal and can only do that because I now stick to the speed limit. When we are driving along we are passed more often than we pass anyone else. I know that sometimes we do annoy other people because we are not speeding, but at least we get there safely. In fact we ususally drive 1 or 2kms below the limit, just in case the speedo is out. LOL

I think most of us drove faster when we were younger...I know I did. My kids are both very careful drivers and the two granddaughters who drive now still have lead feet. Hopefully, they'll grow up one day also. When we're traveling, we're always passed by others. If we're doing the speed limit, they have to be doing at least 10 mph more than us to be able to pass us. Where's the cops when you need them? LOL.

To be frank there are times when I don't obey the limit specially when I am getting late to the office. But most of the time I try my level best to obey the speed limit.

I understand that. It's not good to be late to work too often. Thanks for responding.

I usually drive faster: in my country speed limit is 50 kph in the urban areas but in my area there are many villages one after the other, and on the main roads there is 50 too. Here noone respects the 50 kph limit, it would block the traffic. Neither policemen do: where limit is 50, everyone does 70. Policemen make tickets only when a city needs money: they place on a main, large road, behind some obstacle, and they measure the speed to many cars, then they mail the tickets to the car owners.

Wow, I didn't know any country just mailed tickets to the car owners. Here in the US, as far as I know, they have to stop you and give you the ticket when they catch you speeding. So, I've learned something new today. Thanks for your response.

First, I think that the speed limit should be followed. And in saying that I must confess that I travel over the speed limit. Not to a great deal where cops are eyeing me down as soon as I pass them. I travel at a reasonable speed.
