I believe there is no clear favorite for the NBA MVP this year. It seems the top candidates are 2 time MVP winner Steve Nash, All Star Dirk Nowinski and Kobe Bryant.
You should also give honorable mentions to Lebron James, Carlos Boozer, Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan.
Of the three top candidates, two are white, and Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns won MVP the last two years. Did he deserve to win? Is there a form of reverse racism going on in the NBA?
I certainly believe Nash deserved to win the first title as he soared Phoenix to new heights but the second title is debatable.
I believe Kobe Bryant clearly won MVP status last year but was robbed not by Nash but by his own reputation. He was still living in the aftermath of the rape charges brought against in Colorado (Which was eventually dismissed) and still suffers sometimes from a coarse and gruff reputation with the media. If not for these things, I believe Kobe would have won the 2005-2006 MVP award. I don't call it racism as much as political correctness.
Now this year is a different story. Nowinski and Nash, lead the two best teams in the NBA and clearly should lead the discussion. But are they the two best players in the NBA?
Shaq recently stated , he thought it was a joke with Nash winning two MVP titles. I have no problem with Nash though, I believe Nash should win over Nowinski, because I think he is a greater competitor and does more for his team but the true measure is what will he do in the playoffs. This is a gauge of the true measure of his worth.
Look forward to some interesting and great games.

i think there's no racism or discrimination involved in the MVP race right now. steve nash, dirk nowitzki and kobe bryant really deserve the citations. as for the winner, i think nash still deserves the award, just like the last two seasons. nash has been the suns leader since he returned to the suns after a stint with the mavericks, he has turned the phoenix franchise around and maintained it until now. as for last season, nash actually deserved the award more than his first year. nash carried more burden since there was no amare stoudemire for the suns last season, and yet nash led them to the playoffs, and surprisingly to the western conference finals.
there's no discrimination really involved in the MVP balloting. a lot of black people have won the award, and in fact many times. michael jordan, magic johnson, shaquille o'neal, david robinson, hakeem olajuwon, kareem abdul-jabbar, charles barkley, karl malone, tim duncan, kevin garnett just to name a few. in fact only very few white people won the award. i could only think of steve nash and larry bird. its based on stats, team impact and overall impact. and i think nash, dirk and kobe have all of it.
