Help Needed with Monkey Pickles

Now, nothing is x rated or mature content about this subject. When I refer to a monkey pickle I am talking about a bannana. I have always called them that. I can only eat monkey pickles one way and that is green. I can't stand it if the skin is brown or has brown spots all over it. I don't like it if the inside is soft or mushy either. Lately the ones I have been buying at the market only stay green for two days max. Does anyone know any tricks or tips that I can used to make them stay green longer? Please I really need help with this one.

The freezer will keep them from turning and ripening? Yep that's right, I eat monkey pickles. Sounds dirty doesn't it. LOL

Freezing them will turn them into mush and only makes them good for Banana Bread.

Thanks winkey. I don't want them mushy. I have enough for banana bread as it is.

Similar to what some others have suggested, I've found that keeping them in a cooler climate with stunt their ripening. I've always used the refridgerator myself, but the freezer would probably work even better than that. Monkey pickles? That's just too cute . . .

Thank you for your input as well. The refridgerator seems to be the general concensous, so I will have to try it.

I like mine green too, but I don't mind using the older ones to mash up and make banana bread, or sometimes I smash them up in some organic cereal I eat for breakfast sometimes. I don't know how to make them stay green, though. Good luck to you!

Sorry for them to be fresh I dont know how to keep the green longer. My wife freezes them when the start going brown so that she can make Bannana bread at a later time. Mayber that could work freeze them when they are green. take one out and thaw and eat right away.

Thanks mirage. I may have to try it that way. I freeze them too after they get mushy...to make bread. But I can only make so many loaves, lol.

Seems like keeping them in the fridge....will slow down the ripening proccess.I didn't know this either up until now and I actually had to do a search on it.The only downside to keeping them in the fridge....the skins will turn brown....but the fruit is still good to eat. I found a website that stated a warning to never place green bananas in the fridge.....because they never will get ripe that way.So I guess if you can get over the fact that the skins will turn brown....you should be able to enjoy your bananas in their green stage a lot longer. I love the fact that you call them monkey pickles....I'll have to tell my bf about it....he will get a kick out of that.

Ah winky, you are heaven sent. Thank you so much for looking it up. I guess I could have done that, but it's cool to see how others do it too. I am glad you like "monkey pickles". My kids did too when they were young. I hope my grandson gets to know them by that too. Hugs and thanks again.

once you've bought them, try putting them in the fridge for longer life.

Hey girl, you caught me on the "monkey pickles" hehehe. If you want your bananas to stay green, you must freeze or refrigerate them right away. That is the only way it can be done. I gave you another ++ rating. I love your posts. Keep them coming, and enjoy them "monkey pickles."

hmmmmmmm, I've always called a banana a banana....and a pickle, a pickle. The only way I've eaten a banana is in a smoothie. I thought it was not good to eat bananas green. I don't usually eath them.

only if you get tehm right out of the box from grocery when they come in. They just seem to yellow while sitting there/ I have learned tho take them out of plastic bag and let them set out in the air they last some one longer but they still get brown spots on them in a few days
