Mostly,my favorite method of travel is walking, followed by trains, boats, airplanes and automobiles. My least favorite method of travel is by city bus, the small streets and big traffic in this town can make bus commuting a noisy, grinding nightmare, eerily narrated by a digital voiceover... Occasionally though, something wonderful does happen on these trips, such as the time I had to bring a large bag of "vittles" home and I had to ride the bus for 30 blocks... As I entered the bus and paid my fare, I could tell that the driver was in a very bad mood. He grunted and muttered cusses under his breath, mostly at the traffic but sometimes at the passengers as they entered and exited... I had the misfortune of sitting directly across from him because the bus was crowded and all of the seats were occupied, except for the long "senior citizens" bench to his right. Sitting across from me, and to the rear of the driver, was an older man, kind of thinly built, with that placid look of guy who's seen a lot and maybe lost a lot, in life. I went into my "people reading mode" (it's instinctive and can occur without warning) and just started sensing the vibrations of some of the other riders on the bus... some good, some bad or very busy... some zombified by life ect. Then I turned back to the older guy and I felt kind a sadness emanating from him, perhaps a longing for one more chance at excitement, vibrancy or even simple joy... This can be overwhelming for me, as my sensitivity runs really deep. I sense distress like a barometer senses changes in the climate... The bus was making jackrabbit starts and stops, it's motions perfectly expressing the foul mood of the driver, as he pulled close to the curb to pick up more passengers... That's when this rather large lady slowly entered the bus, her weight evidently made even this normally simple step into a monumental task... As she held on to the safety pole behind the driver, she began to look through her purse for her fare. This delay really irritated the bus driver and he hit the accelerator to make his point. The bus jerked forward, causing the woman to swing around the safety pole,stripper-style, and land her big butt right in the lap of the thin, older guy! He let out a WHOOFF, as the air was suddenly squeezed out of him by this surprising encounter... Almost everyone on the bus cracked up and I let a surpressed chuckle escape my mouth, too. Then I realised that the guy finally did get some excitement, maybe just what he needed... I silently thanked the Universe... It's all good! :)

A good story-(chuckling) Did you happen to notice the after-effects??? Did he stagger to his feet when he rose to leave the bus, or have a newspaper folded, as gentlemen sometimes must- over his lap?? It is =all good.

The poor guy looked like one of those long red balloons that suddenly had the air let out of 'em... I don't think he could stand up until the end of the line! LOL! :)

That always happens to me when I don't have a newspaper, so I use my briefcase... Ah, the convenience of Samsonite! LOL!

I don't get embarassed by this condition at all, it's an excellent "Salute" to Nature and her generousity to allow me to "Spring To Life" without much effort these days... It also a tribute to a great piece of luggage, whose strength and durability I honor with great pride of ownership... it has served me well and often during these years! :)
