What do you do with your cell phone after you have upgraded to a new one?

Do you keep your old phone in case the new one has problems with it? Do you donate it to a charity? Why did you keep it or donate it? My coworker told me about this agency called Delaware Coalition against Domestic Violence and how they were looking for cell phones. I donated my cell phone and accessories to them since they were in need and it was for a good cause.

I trade mine in to get a discount on the new one. The phone-shop refurbishes them and either sells sim-free or keeps for loan units when a phone needs repair

yep. there are lots of mobile shops where you can trade in your old phone. get a new phone and just add some amounts to get the new phone you want to buy. most of my friends do that except for me.

I have two cell phones that are no longer in use. I had not been aware that you could donate them, but I will do so now.

In the past I would take my phone back to my wireless company and put it in their recycle box. I was not aware of donating them either til this week so I thought it would be better and would be of better use for this agency.

that's a nice act. well, you always are a nice person i think.. kevin, right? whenever i upgrade my phone, i don't hand it out to anybody nor sell my old phone. before getting my new phone, i always need to save for it for many months. and so, i say, my phones have sentimental values. especially my new phone now.. a nokia N73, it's a gift from my dad. so, i will keep it forever even if i will after some years upgrade to another nokia phone. sometimes, i hand it down to my brothers and never to someone else.

You were close as my name is Ken. :-) That is okay if you keep the phone as you may need it at some point if your newer phone goes bad. I definitely see why your new phone has sentimental value.

i don't usually upgrade phones.. the last two i had were both given to me and i didn't plan on buying them, my old ones usually go to my mom or my sibling. and if ever i would again upgrade my mom is really eyeing on my current phone so i guess i would give it to her. i really would want a new one.. an n93 perhaps.... but it's really costly... in our end of the planet that is.

That is nice that you give your old phones to your family as that is a good way to donate or give away your old phones. It is good for our families to have phones too. What do they do with their old phones? :-)

That does sound like a very good cause. :) However, my partner is so rough on his cell phones, that we have to keep old ones as backup for the times that he destroys another. ha ha It is not done on purpose....he drops them constantly and they eventually give out. So, we have learned to keep our old ones in case he breaks another. LOL

It definitely is a good cause and now I know where to donate my phones when I upgrade. I would rather give it to an agency so they can give it to someone who is in need of one. Why does he keep dropping them? It is good that you have backups. :-)

We too donate our phones to the Domestic Violence program in our area, Womens Aid In Crisis. They use them for victims of domestic violence. They are always in need of phone and I feel that this is a good place to give them too.

That is great that you donate to the same organization. They are very much in need of giving phones to people in need. It is a good place to get them as women need a way to call for help when they are being abused. Hopefully the donated phones will provide that help to these women or anyone else that is being abused.

I still have my first mobile which was a nokia 3510. I have bought a new mobile I actually don't use it any more, so it sits with my other two which are slightly broke. Kudos buddy, It's nice to see that donating isn't a thing of the past. (you'd be surprised with the amount of people I know who wouldn't) ~Joey

That is great that your church collects cell phones for good causes like the one you mentioned. Anyone that has been abused definitely needs a way to call for help. It is great that churches and other organizations are trying to provide help for the abused.

That is wonderful that you have three to give to them as I am sure they appreciate it very much as well as the women the phones will go to. I just found another phone that I am going to donate to the agency I mentioned earlier.

I hardly changed my cell phone and when I do....the old one will be so old that should go to the museum instead of donation or charity..hehehe. And the cell phone now is getting cheaper and cheaper with unbelieveable offer - almost for free actually, that my old phone will means nothing compares to what they can buy with money that people donated. Believe me, here...they can be quite picky sometimes....

That was very nice of you to donate to your daughter's school and the Woman's Shelter. It is great to know that we can donate our used phones to people that need them.

What happens to me usually, the new one is mine, of course and the other one is for my siblings. Any of them you has no cellphones or need an extra one. So usually, it's like that in our family. Things that are not used are given to each other. Or to our close friends who need them. By the way, you're really a kind person to have given it for a good cause. I admire you for that. So generous. Keep up the good deeds Kg! (^^,)

Kudos to you! Domestic violence agencies take the old cell phones and activate them to call 911 for emergencies. They take old phones and have them in working order for battered women and children. I've been donating my old phones to domestic violence agencies and shelters for years. You'd be surprised how many lives have been saved by these used cell phones!

I don't know about any organisations like this in my area. But as I don't change me cell phones so often i just put them in a shelf or something and....it just stands there. I guess I should look for these kind of agencies.

Donating is a great idea, and I have heard you could but never known where to send the phones to. Now that i have a name i'll have to look into it, as we have two cell's that we just have sitting and they are not being used at all. That's a great idea though, good for you!

My husband and I upgrade cellphones every 18 months, It's a privilege given by the cellphone company where we subscribe. Our cellphones usually goes to our kids and my kids cellphones goes to our relatives in our country. We believe that communication strengthens families.
