Small and hidden away!

Last month I had symptoms that took me completely by surprise and they all seemed to be unrelated. My feet and legs suddenly got swollen, which had never happened before. Though I could walk, my shoes were tight and uncomfortable to wear. My heartbeat would also suddenly speed up for no reason at all and my hands trembled so much, that I found it hard to hold a cup of tea in the morning or move my computer mouse. Despite continuously trying to control my weight, I discovered that weight just went down on its own and suddenly I found I had 12 kilos less! I saw doctors and after an electrocardiogram and many blood tests they finally concluded that I had a hyper active thyroid. As soon as I started taking pills to control it, all the funny symptoms disappeared and I could sign my name once again!
I could hardly believe that such a small thing, shaped like a butterfly and hidden away from view in my neck, could have such a vast effect on me! But I should have known better, my younger sister and mother also have such a problem!

Are you still here?
I'm surprised no one responded. My husband used to get horrible leg cramps plus he dropped lots of weight. They found out he had hypothyroid. He went on meds and then his thyroid went in the other direction. He had trouble for years and now he's fine. Not even on meds, we don't know for how long, but he's doing well so far.

I had forgotten about this entry! I was in treatment for just over a year and at first my readings went down, but then slowly they went up again until they found the right amount of medication. I think I started with 2 pills, then slowly went down and towards the end I was only taking 1/4 of a tiny little pill. The treatment has been stopped now, but I must have checks and scans every few months. They also discovered two little cysts in the scans, but they are not to be worried about, the doctor said, just regular scans to keep them under observation. Thanks for your comment!

Nice to see you're still here. I found this discussion under mine about my husband not needing meds any more either (he will also be rechecked, every 6 months). It's great that you both don't need the meds. Take care and thanks.
