Where can i find songs that are not copyrighted?

I'm looking for lyrics and music for a friend to use and possibly record. She is an amazing singer but hasn't learned to play anything yet so i will need music to give a session musician. I know a lot of musicians use folk songs but I was wondering where I could find them? Any ideas?
