Criminal elements in your residential/living area(s), how do you deal with it?

Crime happens everywhere. Any time and any how. They're in many forms, carjackings, break-ins, gangsterism, rowdiness and so on and so forth. Two years ago, my residential area is plagued by a wave of snatch theft cases. Unsuspectingly, these buggers creep up, snatch, and sped of in a blink of an eye. But it all changed when a few youngsters, who had strategically placed themselves at an access road into the housing areas, took up watch and closely monitored those who travel in and out using that road. Then one day, they gave chase to two snatchers, caught up with them, and then gave them a very savage beating (and citizens arrest of course). From that point on, there was not a single snatch case ever again. So, any myLotters with stories of crime and what the little people can do against it?

I know one thing the criminals are only after money. So don't offer them money. Don't deal, don't hang out with them. From my experience, someone i knew had a business deal with gangsters. He took a certain percentage of profits but the gangsters went back on the deal and cut his profits. He argued with the thugs but in the end the thugs took away his wife. He never heard from her or the gangsters again. So moral of story is, don't deal with this people. They are the only ones gaining.

Well, i don't have violent crimes but i'm working in a town known for large groups of rowdy youngsters and drunks. These guys would fight if they had too much drink. Or worse, they come up to you and ask you for money. Other than that, there's the vice and vice raids are quite common. So what do the little people here do? Nothing much aside from stay away from these groups to avoid being victims. Stay away from 'short stay' hotels to avoid get caught up in vice raids and put on the role of public service, see any tourists and be helpful and guide them around town. Thus preventing them from having a bad night. Other than that, avoid keeping quite on crime, the cops from my parts have a program that enables registered members of public to help report on crime, while being anonymous. So one thing to do is give information to the cops if there's something not right going on. The rest, be safe and stay safe.
