Does any one know original/real meaning of virgin?

i dunno.. but i think i understand virgin as in being pure, innocent, untouch, clean, not used before, baby.. what is that real/original meaning of virgin anyway?? can you enlighted us?

that's what it means now. but that's a comparitively recent interpretation. as I said, originally, a heavily pregnant woman could be considered a virgin if it was her first child.

Jesus mother was the first Virgin, she gave birth to christ without physical contact.

Though i really don't know what it means but i think it means a person who has not had s*x in his/her life.

Hi, In 1200 to be a virgin meant to be an unmarried or chaste woman noted for religious piety and having a position of reverence in the Church. The word comes from old French, 'virgine' and this is of Latin stem 'virginem' a maiden or unwedded girl. It is probably related to 'virga' meaning a young shoot. All the best urban

Virgin means that any woman who has not yet given a childbirth. It also means a young girl.

my understanding is that the term used to refer to any woman that had not yet given birth to her first child. even if she was heavily pregnant with that first child.
