Have you ever thrown anything out of your car while driving? If yes what? Where do you draw the line (if any)?Is throwing food on the ground considered littering since it is biodegradeable? What's your take?

Oh, I am so guilty of this from my late teen years. I would throw out gum wrappers, cigerette boxes, fast food bags. Littering is littering. According to a state trooper that I know, no matter what you throw out of your car window, it's considered littering. They said they don't inforce it but even throwing cig butts out the window when you are done can lead you to a fine. Now I have been a smoker for 10 + years and have thrown so many cigs out ( even in front of cop cars) and never gotten in trouble. Weird huh?

I have to say that I have only thrown out food, probably a hand full of times. I know it is wrong, but then I always can legitimize it in my mind since it's food and animals will eat it or it is biodegradeable anyway....that's horrible, I know! Especially when my husband throws everything and anything out of the window and I get so angry when I see him do it. Pop cans, cig butts and lots of them, his coffee (literally), whatever is in his way. We have got in many a fights going down the road cause of that. Especially when he does it in front of the kids, not a good thing to teach them! Thanks for the great response!

yeah me too. When I was younger I would throw anything out the car window but my sister set a good example on me. I saw her keeping candy wrappers or even biodegradable things in plastics then throws them in the proper place. Throwing anything on the ground so long as it's not a trash can, for me, is littering. I really think people should be more disciplined and start thinking about the environment more.

Absolutly not. I think it is a very rude thing to do. I think it is even illegel (or at least it should be...). I think throwing anything not in a garbage can or something like that is considered littering - food included. Food smells real bad for a few days just lying somewhere - you wouldn't like people to throw their food to stink in your neighbourhood, right?

I am pretty sure that as a child I did throw things out the window. As an adult I never have. All you would need to do is look at my cars floorboard to see that. Anything that you throw out your window is considered to be littering.I know there are places that do enforce the law about littering. Some just make you clean up your mess but others will give you a fine as well.
