Do we call oranges oranges because of the colour orange and if they were green.?

Do we call oranges oranges because of the colour orange and if they were green or blue would we then call them greens or blues?

some oranges are green in the peel - but the fruit inside is orange. I do not know what we would call them if not orange, I suppose it would depend on what came first the color called orange or the fruit called orange in this language. the spanish call the orange naranja, which is not the same as the color orange. perhaps theirs is a better way to name it.

I do believe that its the other way around but when you think about it, why do we call anything what we call it. I mean everything has a name and the name had to come from somewhere didnt it? Take care!!

In my country we have ripe green oranges so they proberly have another reason....

I was just thinking this the other day. LOL I have no idea but I guess that one was named for the other. ITs kidn of like the chicken and the egg.
