Did you know this???? Comments please. IRS: Here Illegally? We Still Want Your $ April 13, 2007 CBNNews.com - WASHINGTON - Illegal immigrants dashing across the border is a familiar piece of video tape. Illegal immigrants filing IRS tax returns is not. Although they're here illegally, the IRS is looking the other way when they file their tax returns. "There is no bleeding over of information from the IRS to the Department of Homeland Security," said IRS Commissioner Mark Everson. "We want your money whether you are here illegally or not and whether you earned it legally or not." So how does this happen exactly? It turns out that, if you're an illegal immigrant, you don't need a social security number to file a tax return. Ten years ago, the IRS created a nine digit individual tax identification number. It was meant for foreigners who work in the United States who don't have social security numbers. But it's now being used more and more by illegal immigrants. "The IRS is an enabler of illegal immigration because it's helping illegal immigrants put down roots here," said Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies. Those nine digit IDs also allow illegal immigrants to apply for credit cards, get bank accounts, or buy a home. As for paying taxes, those who do it say they want to build a lawful life in America and paying their taxes is a start. They hope a good track record with the IRS will eventually help them get legal citizenship. Critics aren't buying it. "If an illegal immigrant wants to do the right thing, then his job is to go," said Krikorian. But it's the IRS's job to collect money -no matter where it comes from. Critics are left scratching their heads, lamenting how the government let's this slide when they should be tracking down and deporting illegal immigrants, not aiding their cause. http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/137088.aspx

Its really wrong. The government is just a mess. They on one hand claim they want to fight terror, but yet they are not checking to see who is illegal or not. The person in charge said they want their money and its not their job to check who is illegal. It's ridiculous.

Well isn't that nice the IRS says come, bring money. But I wonder how many are actually paying taxes. I would be willing to bet it is a very small percentage. I also bet they are onlying paying taxes so they can get refunds and stuff. It is just another case of how we fall all over ourselves to help people that are ultimately going to destroy us.

That is so wrong. I guess they look at it as more money for them. I think if people are paying their taxes, maybe those should be the ones we help to become legal and deport the ones that don't and are working under the table. They have to get some control over this. It is a real big problem.

I have mixed feelings about this. For some, getting the visas to work here legally is nigh impossible. After all, their own government has to okay it as well. So, they come without their own government's approval. I am not against immigration. I think new blood and new ideas is part of what makes the US so great. I'm not saying I like that they are here illegally, but I do believe that this should be taken case-by-case. What I do wonder about, though. If these people are paying taxes, does this mean they are making minimum wage as well? One reason so many employers hire illegal immigrants is because it is cheap labor. How does this affect things? So they are building roots here. How is this a bad thing? If they just want a better life, are good people, willing to abide by the laws of our land, and eventually become citizens, is this really such a bad thing?
