The Rutgers women's basketball coach just announced that, following the meeting last night between Don Imus and the team, they had accepted his apology for calling her team "nappy headed ho's" and other derogatory remarks.
Coach C. Vivian Stringer said the team appreciated the fact that Imus reached out to them after his comments, and she said that "people should stop beating up on Mr. Imus."
People should stop beating up on the Rutgers team, too--these young women have been receiving hate mail and threats.
Mr. Imus's wife, Deirdre, also attended the meeting with Rutgers last night. "They gave us the opportunity to listen to what they had to say, why they are hurting, and how awful this is," she said. "I have to say that these women are unbelievably courageous and beautiful women."
She added, "The hate mail that's being sent to them must stop. This is wrong. If you want to send hate mail, send it to my husband."
I think Deirdre Imus has shown a lot of class, as has the Rutgers team. And Don Imus, after making the nasty comments, has seemed genuinely concerned with trying to apologize for the hurt he caused.
I'm hoping everyone involved can now put this behind them. What do you think?

I think that this is a disgrace that this is still being brought up. The man has genuinely apologized the team has accepted the apology and no more should be said about it. Deirdre Imus has tried to over and over again show how sorry he was that the remarks had been made and the news media just insists on keeping the light on it. Let it rest. Go on to something else that the news media can beat the heck out of.
