Why does my leg joint hurt every time I get sick?

Every time I get sick with something like an infection or the flu the top joint of my right leg hurts like heck. This has gone on for years and sometimes it is even how I know I'm going to get sick. Maybe I've hurt it somehow and the sickness makes it worse? I don't know. I have the flu right now and I saw it coming earlier because of the pain. Does anybody else have similar experiences or know what could cause something like this? It's a pain in the butt... and the leg...
