I have to write an essay on Puerto Rico and I need some help, esp. if there is anyone FROM Puerto Rico who could help answer some questions: Here we go! Can you tell me about Yoruba (and Olofi) and Palo Mayombe? Also can you tell me about any special folktales, folklore or superstitions that you were taught as a child? What are coplas and decimas (these are like stories?) and do you have any favorites that were told to you? Masculine culture = more traditional roles for men & women, values achievement, assertiveness, heroism and material wealth. Communication exists primarily for exchanging information. Feminine culture = values caring for less fortunate, being sensitive to others, communication is for connecting to others, talking implies relationship. Does Puerto Rico have a more masculine or more feminine culture and can you give an example? Are Puerto Ricans comfortable with uncertainty (“go with the flow”, relaxed, informal expectations of others), or do they need to feel more secure (enforce rigid rules for behavior, more elaborate codes of conduct)? Are people from Puerto Rico more proud of individual accomplishments or of group achievements? Is it more individualistic (focusing on themselves and immediate families) or collectivistic (expect support from others, more loyalty to and from the community, focuses on “we” vs. I)? Thanks for your help!!!
