do you or do you let your kids follow the 5 second rule. this is when food falls on the floor and if you pick it up right away and blow on it it's still good to eat. as long as it's not on the floor for 5 seconds.
i don't let my daughter eat stuff that fall on the floor. but sometimes she'll do it with out me noticing. some things arent' so bad. like something not sticky that won't attract stuff to it but it's not something i let her do.

My kids have adopted the 10 min. rule. LOL! Not really, but it does seem that they eat anything. Yes, I try to keep them from doing it, but I'm not always as quick as they are. My youngest is facinated with snow, and it doesn't matter where she found it, she'll eat it anyway... even right off her boots! YUCK!

If food lasts on the floor for 5 seconds I'd be lucky. We have a dog and a cat. If it hits the floor it's theirs, plain and simple. Now and then I might be able to get it and if I can wash it off that's one thing, like a raw potato, but otherwise no I will just give it to the pets and get fresh if possible.

It depends on where we are at. If we are at home, I know my floors are clean because I constantly keep them clean, I might consider it. Generally though, no. I don't like them eating stuff off the floor and try not to teach them that it is okay.

Hello poppoppop111......
I've been a chef for well over 25 years, would you eat anywhere I worked if I allowed anyone in my kitchen to accept a "5 second rule" ???
Do you have any idea what you brought in on the bottom of your shoes ???
If it hits the floor, it's garbage.

your absolutely right. anything can be on that floor but there are some restaurants that have done that though. i have a friend who worked in a kitchen and told me someone did it there. not a fancy place but still that shouldn't matter. i'm glad to know you don't follow that rule.

Hello poppoppop111....
People have no idea what they have stepped in....how many illnesses are spread by spit, bird and other animal crap, blood or a few dozen other liquids. Then they walk all around their kitchen......and then......they are willing to eat something that has been on that floor !!!!
Just because you can't see anything on your shoe or floor, it does not mean it is clean.
Germs and viruses can attach themselves to anything at the moment of contact.

I dont allow them to use the 5 second rule if ever the food falls on the floor it must be thrown away, but they saw their friends doing it, i told them that was not right to pick food because 5 seconds hadn't passed yet.

I've never heard of the five second rule. Then again my mother's floors were always so clean that you could do surgery on them. On the other hand, we had a dog, so food never stayed on the floor long enough or us to even attempt to relocate it. LOL If it landed on the floor, that meant it belonged to the dog. LOL

I do not let anyone eat anything that falls on the floor for any reason. I am not one of those perfect house keepers. I also don't like germs. I have a cousin who is a compulsive cleaning person. You could eat off her floors but not mine. I don't care how long it has been on floor it goes in trash. Even when my daughter was little I told her that we don't eat off floors.
