When you are in the grocery store, do you handle all the fruit check out the colour texture and firmness to see if it is just the right way, or do you through the fruit into the basket? I have no idea what a ripe pineapple would look like Do you read all the labels of the products before you buy just to make sure your getting healthy food? Or like me to you through the Campbells soup into the basket. what do you do and why?

I dont consider myself a picky shopper. I consider myself an educated shopper. I always check my fruit and veggies. By the way, A ripe pineapple has a golden tent to it. I read all the labels to see that we are not getting any MSG or other harmful additives.

You are thinking of picky in a negative content, I am using it in as a synonym for choose, fruit picker or pick fruit from your garden was what I was thinking when I wrote this up.

I am quite picky when buying fruits. I check the apple if there are any discoloration. I don't like eating an apple and discover there's a hole for instance where a worm got in. I try and smell the melon to see if it is ripe. You can generally smell Galia melons if they are ripe and juicy. I take out the rotten grapes from the bag before putting it in my basket. Why should I pay for rotten grapes? I try and squeeze avocados to see if they are tender and ready to be eaten. I try and squeeze mangoes to see if it is over ripe. I can never tell whether an orange is going to be sweet but I squeeze them as well anyway. I think this is just habit. I would try to break off the end of a string bean to see how fresh it is. There are a few more things i do with fruit and vegetables before putting it my basket. As for reading labels, I only read them to compare it with other products to see why one is cheaper than the other. Generally, if it looks good, I'll put it in my basket regardless of what it says on the label.

Hi Winterrose, By the way, I love that name. It truly denotes rarity. As much as I'd love to just throw the Campbell's Soup in the basket, I cannot. (Hillarious visual, by the way!) I have two significant food allergies. So yes, I am one of those tedious shoppers who has to read every label. And, yes I'm a tad picky about my fruits and veggies too. I figure if I spent all that time reading the labels, what's a few more minutes poking the produce?

I am paying for my purchases, and hence I definitely choose the best of the best. Unless I do not know how to choose the fruit, I can be very picky especially when buying fruits which I am familiar and know how to choose. Sure, I do real labels just to make sure I get the healthier version, especially if the price is about the same. I don't take canned soup though. I prefer boiled soup :P

I'm really picky when it comes to grocery item. Especially after I experienced to be a cashier at a grocery store. You can never know what some labels hide. Even on price tag, there is so many interesting descriptions. And what we also called the "birthday" of an item. Which means the expiration, why it is on sale, why it is sold by bundles, something like that, the real price of it... So I take hours for groceries, which makes my brothers angry. But at least they are sure I pick out the best items for our family. Have a great day!(^^,)

I'm quite picky. I can be seen in the grocery store squeezing and sniffing fruits and vegetables and attempting to make out what the tiny writing on the backs of cans and packages says. Most of the foods I buy regularly I don't have to read any more, because I pretty much remember what they contain, nutrition wise. I buy fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits and grow my own in the summer. Campbell's soups don't have a ton of difference between them (most of them) so I wouldn't think much of just grabbing a couple of cans.

When I am in a grocery store, if I have time, I will carefully check the fruit, make sure I would not pick some bad ones. For other products, I will compare the price and value among brands, and then choose the ones best fit to me. I really enjoy those times and I do not think it is picky, it is responsbility to your own good and health.

When I am getting fruit , I generally check it out quickly to make sure it is not over ripe and will go bad too fast but don't spend much time checking everything out . When it comes to food , I don't bother reading labels as I am going to buy it weather it is nutritious or not as it is something we like and so much of the food is unhealthy in some way if you were to start looking at all the labels as they say anything from a can has to much salt and anything out of a bad is not nutritious etc .

I always check out the fruit and veggies that we buy for firmness and ripeness. I won't buy fruit that is too soft, it's a sign of being ready to go bad, but on the other hand, I don't want it to be too firm either. My partner despairs because I know how it should feel, and more often than not, what he thinks feels right, I'm not satisfied with lol.

I am very picky! Not only do I inspect them with my eyes, I smell the fruit and if it is a melon or a squash, I will even rap on it with my knuckles to make sure it sounds right!

I only "investigate" the fruitS and vegies because they are handeled by others. The boxed food or soups I just get what I like, but when it comes to fruits and vegtables i am picky

I'm pretty picky when it comes to buying fruit. I get very selective and try to buy the unbruised ripe ones because I like fruit fresh and sweet. I also don't buy many at a time because I don't like when they sit out too long, even when they are refridgerated. As for the non perishable canned goods, I usually buy the same things time and time again. But when I do get something that is new, I check the nutritional contents just to see how healthy or unhealthy it is. It really doesn't matter what I read because if I want it I'll get it anyways.Come to think of it, I don't know why I bother checking the nutrition.

I'm always picky about the fresh fruits and vegetables that I buy. I like to look at them to make sure they're not bruised or over ripe and stuff like that. As far as reading labels on cans and boxes, I don't do that very often.

when it comes to fruits and vegetables, i am really picky. i don't want my money to go into waste so i'd really choose the best ones. when i was younger, my aunt would tell me what fruits are ripe and okay so i learned from her. when it comes to canned goods, i just take what i think is good enough and can satisfy my hunger. i get a little of these which i only use for emergency cooking.

It's only been a month since I moved to a new house with my baby and the maid. So I just recently started to do grocery shopping for EVERYTHING in the house. I'm not a fruit and veggie fan. But I love ripe mangoes. It has to be smooth and sweet-smelling. For other fruits I have to ask the maid if it's ripe or not before I buy it. I'm lucky to have my maid who knows practically everything from scaling fish to cleaning to laundry to cooking. For the veggies I just throw them into the basket. Don't know much about it either. I don't read labels. But I check the prices and compare it with other products before I take my pick. To make sure that we're eating healthy I come up with a meal plan and I try to veer away from the canned food because they a lot of preservatives. So we cook almost everything from scratch.
