How do you know what "size" you are?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but how do you know what size you are? I always hear people talking about if they are size 6, size 4, etc. Is there some way to find out what size you are? I mean, when I buy clothes, I usually wear a size 7 in jeans, but it varies from brand to brand. And I usually just wear t-shirts and tank tops, but the S/M/L sizes for those are just all over the place! I'm small in one brand, and XL in another. I just get so confused! So is there some sort of standard measurement I'm missing? And how do I find out what that is?! Thanks.

Sizes change with the style or brand but generally size 6-9 usa is small petite then 10-14 is medium 16 up is large but in europe for example they use 34-38 as small petite 40-44 medium 46 up as large and in uk size 6-8 is small petite and 10-14 is medium but its different sizes to usa its larger and theres no 9 or 11 sizes

So would I be a size 7 if I usually wear size 7 pants? I know UK sizes are different, and I am confused enough without having to worry about the European system as well!

Yes, there is definitely a standard of measurement, but the thing is that every manufacturer varies those measurements based on the place where the clothes were made. So a size seven jean in one brand, may be more like a five in another brand. That's why it's so important to try clothes on before you purchase them. Unless you find a brand that you like so much you may never change, but even then you have to check the label to see if is made somewhere else. I had that happen to me at New York & Company. I loved their jeans, but they changed manufacuters and now I can't wear them anymore.

When people say what size they are they are usually talking in general. YOu would be a size 7 since that is what you wear injeans. Like you said, sizes vary for different styles and brands. Don't worry, you aren't missing anything.

The way I do it is to add or minus a couple of sizes because sizes vary so if your a size 7 jeans then your standard size could be 6-8 but if youre buying online i'd just go for size 7. some online shopping sites give you a guide for sizes aswell with measurements so it'll say size 7 is for waist, leg in cm's or inches
