Hi, I have just started as a vet assistant and I need to learn what the right size blades I should be useing. I was told to use a number 10 on the body and a number 40 underneath. I know that I am only learning but I feel that the clips are a fair bit too short. With some dogs, especially the smaller ones they turn out that you can see the pink of their skin. Could somebody please give me some advice as I really enjoy my new job, but would like to do it better. thankyou

it depends on what type cliper you are using I am a pet groomer if you are using a oster a-5 or simular brand thats way to short . the privats on dogs should be cliped with either a 10 or at shortest a 15 . the rest for a longer clip 4(there is a 3 3/4 blade thats longer I say get this if you don't have as it is great ) is good 5 for medium and 7 for short .I am guessing here you are usaing a oster a-5 or simular brand .For clip downs 7 is best I perfer to use the full blades a better finnish then skip tooth blades .Use the 40 on surgery areas and poodle feet thats about it it well be to short for much else .I been grooming since 92 btw .Good luck
