teaching kids at home

When I was a kid, I cannot remember if I learned reading or writing in school or through my mom's help. I can only remember a paper with letters and I have to write the first letter to complete the word and I know my mom did the activity for me to do. Do you start teaching your kids to learn how to read or write or do you leave it all to the school and just help them at home?

I have read to my son every night before bed since he was an infant in a crib. I truly believe that this has helped him in school. Also, before he began school I would ahve activity time and we would "play" school he really liked this! He had a book bag and I made him a "lunch" and we would sit down and trace letters and learn the alphabet, count numbers, use objects around the house such as pencils, apples, shoes etc... to group things together and count. I have found that by doing this my son is ahead of his class. Now I do want you to know I didn't do all of this extra stuff in order to put him ahead of his classmates, my son has mild cerebral palsy and I didn't want him to fall behind his classmates and possibly be made fun of.

I think you would have done all this whether or not your child has mild cerebral palsy or not. And you would have done this not because you want your son to put your son ahead of the class but simply because of your love for your child. =) I admire you for this.

My son isn't old enough, but I believe children should learn at home, in addition to school. I know my mother helped me, she bought those books where you learn how to write at a store. She also taught me how to read. I think this is great, plus not all of the schools have enough time to give each child individual attention like that.

I have 3 kids and my eldest is turning 5 soon. He can already recognize letters and numbers. He's learning how to write too. Sometimes I just feel that I'm not teaching him enough because my attention is divided among my 3 kids. The time when I teach my son is always interrupted. But I do think the child should be taught by the parents at home too. Thanks.

let them learn by themself. it's more qualify then we teach them. first by giving them writing tools: books, pencils, pens, colouring pens.

Do you really think so? Sometimes when I am taking care of my 1 year old, I cannot teach my 4 year old so I just give him paper, crayons, pencil and sometimes he asks for scissors to cut paper. I know kids pick up fast but can they really learn by themselves?
