SLOW Connectivity & Surfing on MyLot. Server Upgrade?

I've been noticing that for the past week my pages download extremely slow on Mylot. I've checked with my internet service provider (ISP) and they recommend that i disable my spyware. I did as per their suggestion even though my spyware has been on since December last year and thus does not in anyway affect my IE. My cable downloading speed is 6Mbps. Even after disabling my spyware, the speed especially for mylot pages remains at a snail's pace. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm sure it's great news to MYLOT that their membership has been on the rise. Don't you think the server needs an upgrade as well?

mylot grows bigger everyday. lots of new members, lots of new posts. i think server upgrades are already under consideration. i guess the new upgrades, specially the sorties, loading altogether during startup, really slowed down the site.

Hi repzkoopz, first of all, i like your Avatar- really cute! About the server, how do you know it is under consideration? I think they should have the hardware first before they even change the layout. How will they know, how much traffic the current server can hold with the blogs and new members with new discussions before the server crashes? - Lyn

thanx! i'll take that as a compliment. c',) we can immediately assume they are already considering server since they already thought of making upgrades. normally, webmasters don't upgrade features without considering server upgrades. but sometimes, features go first to actually test how necessary and how much additional services are required. in fact, i think your 2nd batch of questions are exactly the considerations of the upgrade. c",)

slow speed in mylot - I need a lot of time for loading in mylot
I had also experienced a very slow speed in mylot which affected me much as I already had a slow internet connection. I need to take long time to load a page, especially after I gave comment to the replies, it would automatically redirect to the first page of the discussions, but it did not finish loading for more than three minutes, it caused me much inconvience as I had to wait until I finish on comment,I had to do it one by one,I could not open too many windows or my compyter would get frozen, I thought it was because of the new feature which made the loading speed much slower than before. Anyway, I think the server of mylot is quite good as you seldom see the server down, unlike other forums, they may even close down for maintanence, but there is a need for mylot to upgrade the system to cope with the increase numbers of members and keep the speed smooth for every members.

Hi easy, are you on dial up, cable or ISDN? Don't really know if there is a difference in cable or ISDN really... hehehehe. Anyways, if you are on cable like i am, then you know exactly what i mean. I said i can make coffee while waiting and it's still not up yet, but another mylotter say that i am exaggerating. :D Thanks for your comments. - Lyn

I've had this happen on and off since I joined Mylot 2 months ago. However, I find that if I log out for a little while and then log back in, it's okay again. I think with the new look that they gave Mylot just recently, and the sorties for the home page and the profiles, it slowed down the server something crazy. I hope they upgrade the server too, it would make for a much better enhanced service for all of us.

the changes here in mylot may have contributed to the slowness of mylot. They also have noticed this slowness and will surely make possible changes to improve it.

Hi scorpiostar, thats true! I remember that too. When i started, it was only about 73 000 members. Now it is close to 87 000. Do you think a server upgrade will benefit all members of Mylot? - Lyn

In my response to your "apology to my myLot friends" I already talk a bit about connection. Right now I am at home in Switzerland and am connecting with a DSL 5000 line. Top speed. Nice and phantastic. But in Sudan, where I live and work, it is all different. Some websites load "normal", but myLot is slow. And yet we have a huge server we are "hooked" on. But with some 100 users. So, I think, this by all means, has a slowing effect. It seems that our system will be upgraded. But I do not know, whether is to have more users or the speed. The fact is that to earn a abit of money from myLot, you need to post, answer and start discussions. Now, to resond to you, it took me about a minute, all included. Would I have done this in my "normal", usual day to day "place", this would have taken me 5 minutes, at least. In conclusion, I think you just have to be patient a bit. Indeed, myLot is growing very fast. And I am sure they are going to do something about it.

Thank you pvoegtli, lately i guess i've been quite 'lucky' because i log onto MyLot during the OFF PEAK hours hehehehe. So it is a little faster than before. At least i don't have to make a drink to fill my time while the pages downloads. My download speed is actually 6500Mbps! It's unbelievable how fast the other sites downloads compared to myLot. Cheers! - Lyn

Yeah maybe you're right the site is a bit slow...I guess they should really do something for improvement. Faster site means more discussions done and will equal to great opportunity in earning. I really do hope they can do something about it.
