gets formula from WIC and sells it! I actually saw this posted on a message board online. She said her husband said she should get the formula just to sell and she said ok. That is ridiculous! How come people like this don't get caught? What do you feel the punishment for this should be? Have you heard of anyone doing it? It's pretty troubling, because someone else could have used that formula, that she got for free and is now selling!

She should be thrown in jail for theft. I've heard of this happening before, people talking of WIC formula being sold on Craigslist. WIC spends a lot of money on formula, that stuff isn't cheap!

Actually I have to agree with you , that is pretty sad that someone would even consider doing this as there are so many people out there that actually need this free product . To me this should be the same as stealing because in essence this person is stealing from the mother and baby that could really use this formula . Not everyone has the money that they need to start a family but this doesn't change the fact that they love their child very much and that with a little help now , that this family couldn't make a go of things better , later in life . And this free formula would be a huge deal for them to recieve but if others are taking it to make a profit for themselves they are stealing something from someone who needs it so much more then they do .

How could they do that? there lucky that there is a government who can help them and then they will also abused it.They would really go to jail if there caught. There like cheating or stealing the government,i know the punishment of that is heavy one. There are people who do that, especially if their husband has no work or so lazy to find a job and just depending the government. That is so shameful if you will do that.Getting formula for free and sell it!what a shame!

Yes this does seem wrong but on the other hand, perhaps the person needs the money and can buy other things she needs for the baby like diapers and things. Unless you know this person then I wouldn't judge them. If they are young enough to have a baby then they may be having a hard time making ends meet. I am not saying this is the right thing to do but not knowing the person I could not judge them. There are people who do much worse things then this and never get caught. People who know the system get away with all sorts of things. The fact that this is something you would probably not ever have to do or would not do even if you had to makes you a more honorable person then this person. Just be happy you do not have to make money this way.

For some reasons I am really not surprised, but then again I am, as it seems to me to be amazing that a WIC mom actually nurses. I sure hope that this person really needed the money, as I am sure that some women do, but I still think that it is not ethical. You can see it in a different light though. When the mother gets the baby formula, she gets less WIC food, so in essense she is losing out in this way. I always get all my WIC food, but sometimes I do give some of it (not sell) to friends and family, who I know are struggling to make ends meet. I have nursed both my children, but I really felt like the WIC program encouraged mothers to use the formula, while they at the same was promoting nursing. Even at the hospital, when I told the nurses that I wanted to nurse my son, and asked them to please not give him any formula, they completely disregarded it, and in addition I was sent home from the hospital with a lot of formula.

That is awful! This a prime example of people abusing the government and if she gets caught she will make it harder for people that actually need this stuff to get it. There should a legal consequence and punishment for this. I cannot believe that people can be so selfish and money hungry.

Doesn't surprise me! People sell their foodstamps all the time...and most don't get caught. It's rediculous! But so many people are doing it that it's hard to catch them all. I think it's sickening though. It's people like that, that make it so hard on the single mom's that NEED help...and you have to go through so much just to get a tiny bit of help. People really need to stop abusing the system!

I think this is awful- This mom is only hurting herself and her family- If she is caught I'm pretty sure they wold take away her benefits. Plus I am pretty sure that if you get Formula you lose other items- Like possibly things to keep the mom healthy for brestfeeding. So she is loosing out anyways- I would have no problem with this if she was giving it to others who really needed it and didn't qualify on their own.. but to sell it just sounds wrong. I would hope that at some point they don't get turned down for something they might need due to this.

It's wrong. The woman is stealing. The people who know what she is doing are just as low as she for not reporting her. I hope the government (or whereever you get wic from) find out, and her punishment should be to take away her wic, or provide someone to monitor what she does buy with her wic. Karma, it will come back to her.

WIC has been around for a long, and I am sure this practice has been around for just as long. I've heard of people selling food stamps, which I think is harder now since they went to debit type cards. I was a nursing mother, WIC gave me some formula, which I didn't use. I gave mine to the foster care system for the babies they took in, and they would distribute it to foster mothers. A lot of times babies are placed quickly, and the foster parents wouldn't have anything on hand, so this helped them.

It is outright stealing...... but even worse. She should not only be treated as a common thief would be but an additional punishment is needed for abuse of the system. It makes me want to scream sometimes. There are always people who work the system and I can't help thinking that is they would apply that energy to a constructive endeavor they would be one less person requiring assistance. But they just never seem to see it that way.

I think she should be reported and pay back every bit of the formula she has sold on. Programs like that are done to help people that need the formula and its not for personal gain.

you hear about scams like this quite a bit and it does make you wonder why the heck people like this dont get caught. it is a sad world when there is more unfair, dishonest things going on than good. i wouldnt personally buy formula from anyone but a store or manufacturer. who knows anymore. there are nasty people out there that get their kicks off of hurting others. sad sad world!!!
