From Scrawny to Brawny

Scrawny to Brawny - In my opinion, this is a good sample picture of a middle-aged man with a well chiseled body. This man is not a professional body builder, in my estimation, but he has the broad shoulders, chiseled body, muscle proportions and 6 pack that I seek.

I am a healthy 34 year old man that has always been on the small and scrawny side. Fortunately, I have a great metabolism and have never had to watch what I eat to remain slim, but, on the other hand, as a College English professor and author, I have never been able to 'buff-up' and get brawny. Frankly, I have never dedicated the time to this venture either, but I am determined to do so now. I am seeking advice and recommendations from experienced individuals as to the best workout/muscle buidling/toning/weight training techniques that will build my physique, broaden my shoulders, and give me greater strength in the back, arms and legs in the shortest amount of time. I am also seeking recommendations on safe (non-drug) supplements that experienced individuals can recommend that will help me gain and realize significant muscle growth and develop that 6-pack faster and more chiseled. Please note that I am NOT interested in becoming a professional body builder and competing in such events. I just want a very chiseled and toned body that gives me broader shoulders, increases the size of my overall physique (from scrawny to brawny) and gives me that 6-pack.
