What did the first vending machine dispense?

The first vending machines in the US dispensed chewing gum and were installed in New York City train platforms in 1888. Interesting...huh?

I wonder when choco bars were put in the machines? or maybe drinks? I wonder what the gum tasted like back then? Did you know that chewing gum is made from rubber? I saw that on 'how its made' on the discovery channell... sorry i am just going on and on...can you tell i am a writer? lol...i ask a ton of questions... where did you get this info? I am curious, not only cause i am a writer, but cause i am a history freak :-)

I would guess the first gum in the first vending machines was something like chiclets of black jack...I'll pm you the other answers to your questions...lol :)

That's very suprising. I never would have thought that chewing gum was that popular back then.
