Do you ever leave money in your car?

I went through a drive thru the other day and it made me think. More than once I've pulled up next to a car in a parking lot somewhere and saw money laying up on the dashboard. Mostly it's just change but every once in a while I'll see some paper money laying down on the seat or in the console where you set a drink cup. Now, don't get the wrong idea about me, I don't go out of my way to snoop but sometimes you just notice things when you look down through the window. My question is - how many of you leave money in your car and why? Do you commute a lot and need it for tolls or drive thrus or do you just get lazy and forget to take it out?

I usually put some in my ashtray and close it up. It's not quickly noticeable and sticking out there, inviting a thief and it's never a large amount. I think the most I've ever had is like $10 in it. And I always lock my doors. So while I wouldn't say they would never be able to get it, they would have to have gotten pretty lucky that I didn't lock the car or even have to smash a window to dig through the car and find it. I like to have a little money available just in case I decide to stop and get something or end up needing something and looking in my purse to find no money. Although now that I have no car... guess it's not an issue! LOL

I usually try to keep at least $5-10 in my car in case I decide to stop for food or need gas and don't have other money on me. I've left the house more than once and forgotten to bring my debit card, and have been glad I had extra cash in the car!

I often keep a little change in the ashtray for the drive thru or whatever, but only a couple of dollars, and nothing that anyone could see without actually going through my car to find it.

some people just have a lot on their minds. Who knows what they are thinking of. You hear stories all the time like this................ Someone is going to make a bank deposit. The money is in a paper bag. They set it down for some reason and forget it. Someone finds it and turns it in. What were they thinking? Or....a taxi driver in Las Vegas finds a huge bankroll of hundred dollar bills in the back of his cab and goes back to find his customer. What was that guy thinking? Maybe people just have too much money or something and they really don't care.
