I've been thinking about getting a domain name for my main blog, and I purchased one for my website, but I've been hearing rumors there are some places you can get a free domain name. Now I'm not interested in subdomains such as www.myspace.com/reginapaul I'm looking for actual domain names such as www.reginapaul.com Also, I'm looking for something where there isn't a catch, I don't want to complete offers or anything like that.

You cannot have a "Domain Name" for free. Though Domain Names were offered free of cost when these were launched for the first time more than a decade ago. Getting a Domain name for free is just not possible. lol....... the only exception is if someone gifts you one. The reason Domain names dont come free are....... "Domain Name" registration is governed by "Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANNN) - www.icann.org . ICCAN changes $0.25 as its own charge whenever a new domain name is being purchased. Again, ICCAN has asigned "Registries" who have "Domain Name Registrar's" under them. Domain Name Registrar's are the ones from whom you can register a domain name....... E.g. - Godaddy.com, Register.com, domains.yahoo.com, netsol.com, etc. And, the Registry gets a charge from these Registrar's everytime they sell a Domain Name. As such, there are a lot of Agencies involved while u register a Domain Name.... directly or indirectly. And, its not possible for anyone to provide you with a Domain Name, free of cost.
