What causes HICCUPS?!??!?!

If i'm very hungry and i start eating food,in less than 1 minute i start getting hiccups.....what causes this hiccups anyways?!?!?

I'm not sure when my daughter laughs to hard she gets hiccups. Funny huh I've never heard of that before.
