What can we do to help the next generation become more healthy? Are you concerned that our children do not eat right or get enough exercise? Whose fault is it?

I think this is a huge problem and it is the responsibility of the parents to take charge of their child's diet and exercise and to lead by example and cook them good foods everyday. Too many people are too busy to take care of themselves and teach their children to take care too.

I definatly think we need to set a good example for our kids, but its important to not shelter our kids from 'bad' foods. I used to know someone that wasnt allowed ANYTHING that wasnt healthy in his house and anytime we were out, he would gorge himself on bad food and that wasnt healthy either. I do not believe our kids get enough exercise either, but that also requires our parents to make sure our kids get out.

And let me add that i think the school systems cutting out recess is a VERY bad idea.

I totally agree with you about the recess. I think that's a horrible idea.

I think that for the most part it's the parents fault, with the exception of the children who have an endicrine problem, or on medicines that make them gain weight. Everybody's far too eager to buy their kids toys, computers and games that don't let them move around very much and get exercize. We seem to be raising a generation of children who have no desire to move from their chair or the couch! Not to say that's every child or situation, but I do see it a lot. We used to go out and play everyday; active games like ball, hopscotch, jump-rope and all. Today, it's far more fun to watch TV, or to play computer games, it makes good old fashioned playing look/ or feel like work! When you add the lack of exercise on top of the fact that most homes have tons of junk food to snack around on, it's no wonder kids today are becoming (shall I say it???????) overweight and lazy! Childhood is the age where you develop good eating habits...or not. It's up to us parents to learn to say no to foods that are not nutritious, and yes to more exercise. When my girls were little, I kept bowls of fruit handy. When they were really little, we'd call fruit 'nature's candy' and they'd always ask for it. It wasn't until they were school age until they really got introduced to candy and junk food. But even then, candy, junk food, and soda pop, was reserved as a treat for weekends, having friends over, and not as an every day thing to enjoy. To this day, they prefer fruit over candy, and juice over soda. It all begins when you're young and you develop a taste for it that lasts you throughout your whole life. I've had people actually tell me that I was 'denying them', we never looked at it that way...if we were denying them, we were denying them of a lifetime of bad habits.

its the mother's fault coz they consider their son's and daughter's to eat anything they like.
