I don't know are there any mylotters has discuss about this topic or not, but really it's curious me about peoples thought related to nationalism. Sometimes I feel that being too nationalist right now sounds hypocrite although in our heart we love our country or nationality. In some countries maybe conscription is something to show nationalism. In some countries even already eliminate that from natinalism activities (my country also have no conscription duty for youth). I'm a peaceful person, and for me nation supposed to try not conflict with other nation, so... why we need to agree conscription activities if you don't want to starting war?? For me, national securities are already served by the militery, and some people who really want to involved in national securities may join or enter the qualification. But involving civil I think it's not wise enough, except maybe for somebody who really want to be volunteers, and I salute to this people. But not every people would like to become nationalist in militery way I think, still many person can show their nationality by other way. Do you agree with conscription? And according to you,is that mean that you lack of nationalism if you refuse to join conscription? Or maybe you have other opinion side about nationalism, because I just feel that people nowadays are not attention to nationalism anymore.

i think being a nationalist in your own country entails you to be a law-abiding citizen. and being a nationalist when you're in another country entails you to do good in everything you do, to represent your country well. conscription doesn't give you any freedom of choice..it's hard..people should be promoting peace and prosperity, not war and war.

Well, you make a very vital point by saying why? should countries involve themseves in wars or fighting others? Those countries who anticipate war have this compulsory service to the national army. I donot understand if we are all negotiating for peace why the need for conscription? Definitely some leaders are aggressive and will want to lead his country to war with another and therefore with th desire to win will constitute this kind of law. In my country, we have enjoyed peace since independence and for some one to join the army, you must at least have a high school cert. before you're qualified for the interview and other procedures to the admission. The civil service donot have part to play in this except the support for them in external aggression. To me conscription is not the best way to show ones patriotism and nationalism.

Conscription is ridiculous. If you were fighting in a war, would you rather have the person next to you be someone who volunteered to fight or someone who got dragged there because the government forced them to? Do you think most of the drafted men will be brave and fight or go hide behind trees and rocks so he doesn't get shot? Think about it. A paid volunteer soldier is far more motivated than someone who was forced to fight.
