Can I wear a button-down collar shirt with any style suit?

I am really trying to figure out what style shirts are acceptable with different style suits. I have double-breasted suits and 2-button single-breasted suits and 3-button single-breasted suits. What style collars should I wear with each?

Yes, and add a tie to complete the outfit.
