Have you tried getting him to sit backwards on the toilet. I did this with my son as well as some boys that I babysat. They can get scared on the full size potty and worry more about falling in or off than using it.

I have had problems too.My kid would not use the potty chair initially. She was happy to do her pee in the bath tub.and potty in her diapers. But I started taking off her diapers after she turned 2 yrs old.I would tell her to tell me whenever she wanted to go pee or potty.Initially, she would not know and before she told me,she would have done it on the floor.I have had to wash and sterilise quite a few of her panties too.But she learned.I was determined to not let her go back to diapers.Eventually we got down to diapers only on outings. And by 2.5 yrs,she was done with that too. What I did was, take her every hour or so initially and make her sit.obviously, they have never done this voluntarily upto this point so it takes time for them to actually recognise which muscles to use in order to pee or go potty. But they come around pretty fast.she learnt in two months time that she had to both the things in the potty chair.Initially when I was training her for going potty without a diaper, she would cry and want to go in her diaper.Or else, she would ask to be stood in the bath tub.I had to give in because you cannot terrorise a child for potty training.I had to wash the bath tub everyday with bleach cleaners. It was tough but she learnt soon.since your kid is just turning 2,give him more time.Eventually,he will tell you before he goes.It will not happen within days.It will take upto more than 5 months. But by the time they are 3 yrs old, kids do learn to distinguish when they want to go pee pr potty.Primarily because their sense of speech is also quite developed by this age, and they are more aware of how their body functions. So have patience and don't punish the child if he does it on the floor. He will learn, just tell him gently.Goodluck!:)

yup, try smarties. reward him every time he sitson thepotty for afew days, then every time he goes, then only every time he poops. It should take about 2 boxes of smarties if you use 3 for a pee and 5 for a poop. ofcourse, you couldalso put something in the bottom of the potty for him to hit if he insists on standing up to pee. My daughter tried a sprinkle of those koolaid powders that change colour from green to red when liquid is added. Gave her second son a real incentive
