My SO and I like to surprise each other with special little things...not costly, just meaningful things and we like to do things for each other. This is sometimes tricky because we live a good distance apart, but not for long!! Anywho...what are some special things you do for you SO?

You know....I really like how you put the focus on things that don't cost much, but rather things are more meeaningful. If today's consumer driven society I feel this is a sentiment that often gets lost. My boyfriend and I also try to keep things meaningful rather than costly. In fact just the other day while out shopping, I picked him up one of his favorite snacks, a Whoopie Pie. When I gave it to him you would have thought I had just presented him a new car or something. He was just so happy and it made me feel so great too. He often surprises me with little treats....even something so simple as an email like to something he thinks I might like makes me happy. Such a little thing can really make someone's day, just letting them know that you are thinking about them :-)

You just reminded me that I really have to try to be better about this. We used to do a lot of things but somewhere along the line he quit noticing and I quit trying. He used to bring me Ranch Fries and a magazine on Friday nights "just because". I would tuck "I love you notes" in his pockets. My S/O and I still do a few things but they're fewer and farther between than they used to be. Tonight i showed up at his house before he got home from work just because I wanted to be there for him. He was late because he stopped to pick up a new soda I'd said I wanted to try.

Good question. Sometimes we take that for granted. I don't like to spend a lot of money because one we don't have it! Two, we try to do little things that mean something, rather than costs something. I make cards on the computer, I leave notes on his pillow or in his notebook for work, sometimes I send him a text message to tell him I miss him. Little things like that. Sometimes when he comes home I will take his boots off and make him lay on the couch and relax. Little things like that make more of an impact than just spending some money on something costly.

In my perception it is very good to surprise each other with small gifts. It not only leaves us a sweet memory but also will increase the affection.
