Changing the bed covers. Do you have a routine?

I have just been changing our bed covers and it set me to thinking how I would not need to do this if we had a hammock. Then I remembered our holiday in The Bahamas last year and we could not manage to get in and out of the sun bathing one that was there. We have a duvet and that is easier than trying to tuck in sheets. So I decided it was not too bad after all. Do you need covers where you live?

I do have a routine for changing the bed covers. Because here in Eastern Canada its is chilly during the fall and winter and early spring. I used a full comforter. So I wash the sheets every Thursday and the comforter goes the the Laundromat once a month because of the cats and the hair and the dust. But my summer set is a duvet which makes it so much easier I was it twice a month and hang it to dry on the clothes line. I love the feeling of nice crisp bed linens.

Thank you for your quick reply. MyLot is great to learn about the way people from around the world do things. I think of England as being cold but I am sure I would find Canada much colder and need lots of layers of bedclothes.

Ahhh, magicalmerlin, changing bed cover is certainly not one of my favorite thing to do. Washing it is the worst. If I'm changing bed cover, I also change the pillow and bolster cases. The mattress I have needed to have bed cover. What you are saying about duvet pique my curiosity. I shall have a look at this. I always welcome the idea of lessening my dreaded household chores. :)

I never thought that just by changing bed linen and how often could evoke so many replies. For myself the bed is stripped a minimum of once a week but usually twice. The duvets get laundered when I think of it. It is kept on the beds all year long. Even in winter things are hung outside, weather permitting. Mites? What are they? Bedbugs? I've heard of them but have never had the pleasure.

The mites and bedbugs are supposed to be tiny microscopic things in all of our beds and mattresses. It does not bear thinking about so I try not to.

yep, i do have routine in changing the bed covers..i've been changing it every weekend, specially my kid will get pee on it, i need to change it after because it's wet and the bed needs to put under the sun coz if not, the bed mites will come out and it's itchy.. we need to cover our beds so it looks nice and clean, and also need to change it so it will not produce bed mites and dusts..

I change my sheets every Saturday afternoon, sometimes Sunday. Both my husband and I take a shower before we go to bed everynight so we are pretty clean, but I still like that fresh smell of clean sheets. :0) I wash the comforter that I use in the fall and winter about once a month. As I don't want to wear the material too much.
I also switch between two quilts that my grandmother made me during the spring and summer time. These are washed about every two weeks and line dried. Hotter then and you sweat more. ;0)
I need covers no matter what, but the hubby could go without. He has the fan blowing on him no matter what the temperature is! lol

I prefer to have lots of covers but my husband complains and says I am like a furnace. It is great that you use quilts that your grandmother made.

Yes, I need bed covers here. Because with the mattress only, it feels hot and itchy. So we have bed covers. I have a routine to change it every week. Sometimes everyday, because of my daughter unexpected emergencies. You know. (^^,LOL) And to avoid the build up of dusts and mites. Which I have heard to cause asthma or respiratory ailments to children too. But I must admit. I don't like to change bed covers. It is so frustrating and tiring. But when you go to bed at night. You are happy you have changed them. Have a nice day Magicalmerlin!! (^^,)

i live in the southeast portion of north america,so right now we still need covers, just less of them. in winter it always seems like it's way colder than in the rest of the house, so i always cover up a whole lot.
