If you can't drink and drive then why do bars have parking lots? Do you ever think why bars do this? I know it is the persons responsibility, but if bars cared so much surely they would not have parking lots.

Some people go to a bar and only have one drink. Then they drink a glass of water, play darts or pool for an hour or two, and are well enough to drive home. Others all pile into one car with a designated driver. Still others drive to the bar and get a cab home. You say it is the person's responsibility, but if a person leaves a bar drunk, gets in the car, and kills someone, it comes back to the bar. The owner and bartender both have some responsibility and can be prosecuted for their involvment.

That is a good question! I think people are in such denial about how very little it takes for them to be impaired. I am glad they keep dropping the legal limit, because if drinkers won't exercise common sense...I guess being a nanny state is another way to deal with them.

Bars don't care, they just want to make money. Of course, they don't want to be sued after one of their patrons causes an accident after leaving their establishment. A good bartender will cut off someone who's had too much, or try to get them sobered up a little, call them a cab, or get someone to drive them home. Around here, bars have to have parking lots because we are out in the country where you have to drive to anywhere you're going. I grew up in a bar. My mom and dad ran a bar on their own, and we lived upstairs. This was in Chicago, on a busy street. We had no parking lot, and most of the people walked to the bar. My brothers and I took turns helping to walk people home if they drank too much. We didn't want to see them get hurt, or robbed on the way home. Our customers were like an extended family to us, and we did care about them and look after them. My mom used to give them free lunches all the time, or we would order pizza for everyone. The bars today are much different.

Maybe they have a parking lot so that a person might have a place to leave your car overnight. Or maybe because the person knew the were going to be drinking so they brought a designated driver. There are a few people who don't always go to a bar to drink, some people go there to shot darts or play pool.
