The fact that they were athletes in top shape pbviously helped them, Sadly, they have been ostracised since the day they escaped the mountain. Although they weren't the first people to have to go to those lengths to survive, they ae probably the second most famous ones. Only the Donner Party story about people stuck in a mountain valley in the 1800s is told more.
