Alcoholism-how do you know if you are "an alcoholic"?

it seems that everyone has a different idea of what an alcoholic is. For some it's if a person drinks every day, for others it's if when they drink they become angry and belligerent, and for still others, you are an alcoholic if no matter how much you drink, you end up losing your job and your wife and kids over it. I'v also heard that someone is an alcoholic if they drink hard licquor but that wine and beer are okay to drink (?????). Which of the following types of drinkers do you believe is the "alcoholic"? 1. The person who drinks a bottle or two of beer or a glass of wine every day, but never gets drunk. Their personality never changes and they have no problems getting to work everyday and their drinking a glass or two has no effect on their relationship with their family or friends. 2. The person who doesn't drink all week except one night a week on the weekend, they will then 5-7 beers or polish off a whole bottle of wine. They will get drunk, this one night a week, but this doesn't affect their relationship with their family or friends and they don't drink anytime during the week except this one time. My husband is #1 and I am #2. We have a bit of a debate going on now.
