As a teacher, everyone I have different student and in each class I might have one or two favorate students.I might like them for different reasons, some being excellent in study, some are active in class activities, some are just kind and good to teachers. But I know a teacher should treat his students equally and fairly. In what way can I show my appreciation to them, just tell them in words or any better way I can do in?

Hi! Please check your spelling of "favorite". =) As a teacher, you couldn't help but like certain types of students. Personality is an undeniable factor. However, we do our best not to show favoritism in front of the class. We also assess and evaluate them fairly and equally. You can show your appreciation by preparing for livelier and more interesting lessons and activities. It will not only benefit your favorite kids, it would help the rest of the class as well.

Teachers are also human, they are also can be subjective. So it's normal if they treated some students special. Maybe trying to be the best student, try to active is the best way to get attention.

Give them candy? That always worked to make me feel good during grade school.

Each student can have a hidden quality or potential but that should never lead you to make that particular student your favourite.Try to find the positive qualities of all your students and appreciate them by talking positively to them and encourage them in their qualities.By having one particular student as your favourite you will indirectly harm the student because she/he will take you for granted.A good teacher should always see all their students equally.I am a teacher for the last 27 years and have been fair to all the students irrespective of caste, colour, looks, behaviour and hidden qualities. To be a good teacher one has to develope the positive attitude of impartial judgement,a child should be spoken to about his/her shortcomings even when the child has hidden qualities which you may like and at the same time encourage his/her potentials.

You're right that every student equalily. When I said to have some favorite students, I did not mean to treat others unfairly. I don't mean to do it on purpose, but in each class, you can often find one or more students really attract your attention because of some of their traits and you just can't help appreciating or liking him or her better than others.

I read your comments, its true that different student possess good qualities which attracts you;But you should excavate the qualities of your other students too.Liking means having a soft corner and this will persuade you too be a bit partial towards that student, even unconsciously and this may encourage the kids to take advantage and in the long run you are helping them to be spoilt, again unconsciously.Today you are with them, tomorrow they will be without you---lost in the wilderness like sheep without a shepherd or with a different shepherd who may not like them. What happens to them then....?

Yeah I agree with you that to like a student should be at the same time try not to spoil him/her. It's not good to them if they feel the special concern by one teacher but get a absent treatment by the next one. Thank you for your reminding.

I think you might want to tell them good job but you don't want the other children to think you have a favorite. I have one that is close to my heart becouse I know the home life he has but still do not show him any difference.

Teachers have some favorate students in each class and the reasons maybe different. I am also a teacher so I agree with you. And that is also true that a teacher should treat equally. If we always favour our pet students then pothers feel bad. So what I do is - I praise the favourte students for their good qualities in few words and encourage others to do so, sometimes on some pretext we can give them something - a small gift like, So this way we can praise them and others will feelthat their teacher is always praising this particular student only. I hope u will agree with me.

I think teachers should treat their students equally and fairly. But as a student, I do appreciate being treated differently in class. Sometimes my teacher says I am his "star pupil", and of course he's just kidding, but I really like this title^_^

i think it's ok. when i was a student there are 1 or 2 teacher that treat me different n i'm glad to have it. at least it less my stress in school. it's good enough 4 some students... just don't to over different i think that really doesn't matter at all. if u afraid being unfair, maybe u just give ur student some appreciate personally in report. :)
