can you tell without hurting someone?

i have this friend back at my old shool who tells us all sorts of stories that we know are not true. he tells us he dis this and that or tells something about someone but we don't believe him anymore because we know that he is just making it up. he also likes to spend his money on stuff thet he doesn't need. he is a very impulsive buyer. maybe because he wants to show us someone he is not or to be cool and in. how can you tell someone that he needs to stop and just be his true self? how can you tell them that you are tired of listening to their imaginary escapades without crushing the person?
