Why don't they give TV shows a chance?

Have you ever started watching a show, only to have the TV network cancel it after a few episodes? Last year FOX canceled the show "Reunion" midway through a cliffhanger! And I've been watching ABC's "October Road" for the past few Thursdays, but now there's rumors it may be on the chopping block. Why don't the networks give shows a chance to find an audience? Is there a show that you used to watch that was suddenly canceled?

Oh I know. There are many shows I have liked that they have canceled mid-season. I hate when they do that. How can they tell what will happen to it? The first few episodes of most shows aren't the greatest because the actors are still learning about the character and how they will play them. Often the second season is so much better then the first it's like night and day. So how can they tell with just a handfull of shows how it will really do? Some I liked were Masquerade, The Magnificent Seven, Outlaws, The 100 lives of Black Jack Savage, Tucker's Witch to name a few. There are others but some I'm blanking on. The point is many of those could have gone on to really do a lot but instead they just dropped them. I think they missed out on money makers.

I know, i hate when they do that. I hope they don't cancel october road, i really like that show. they can't expect every show to get big right away. i can't think of any in particular that i watched and they cancelled, but i know there are some.

This has happened to me so many times. Every show I really enjoy gets cancelled before the season is over. I have stopped getting into shows too much so I can avoid the disappointment of the eventual cancellation. :)

I don't watch a lot of TV, but it drives me nuts when I find a show I do like and they cancel it in the middle of a good plot. There was a show called "Over There" about soldoers in Iraq and their families back home and it was a great show. It ended with an awesome cliffhanger, and that was almost two years ago, I haven't heard about the show since!

I was an "Invasion" fanatic when it was on...and when it was reported it was to be cancelled, i didn't believe it, until it was. Am I the only one who used to watch it? I love those kind of alien shows, and this was not corny at all, was very good. I would like to protest those producers.

Yep, I got the same experience, and for Reunion, I don't think Fox should have done so. But as everything happens for a reason, I don't wish this might be changes so soon, anyway, people are doing the show because of the money... Andy
