Does an Alarm Clock work for Your Kids? Or do you Wake them Up?

I have a 12 and 7 year old, and the alarm clock doesn't faze them at all! On a recent cub scout trip to the local fire dept. we also found out that most kids do not wake up to a fire alarm either! The firemen told us that most kids are immune to loud sounds and alarms and just don't pay attention to them. There are now new fire alarms out that yell out a warning now instead of just buzzing. And they have been shown to work better then our regular fire alarms. Would your kids be able to get up on their own with an alarm clock? And would the fire alarm wake them at night if it went off?

I wake my daughter up every morning. She did previously wake to an alarm clock when I was a single mom and had to leave her in the morning to wake up, but I would call and make sure she was up and getting ready. Sometimes she is ok with an alarm clock and sometimes not. Depends on how deep she is sleeping. Fire alarm? This child can sleep through a hurricane.

I have a 16 year old that can't get up to an alarm clock but she can set her cell phone to ring and she hears it every time. I guess she would not hear the fire alarm either. My husband just recently started hearing the alarm as I made him start using it. It is scary to think that an alarm like the fire alarm can't wake them up.

I wake my daughter myself every morning. We havent tried an alarm clock yet. I think those new smoke and fire detectors are a fantastic idea. We also practice fire drills every few months. She has slept through the alarm during a drill before which is scary.
