I have recently started having my family take vitamin c tablets to help reduce the sickness this winter. I purchased some new tablets and they are 1000mg. The last tablets that I bought were only 500mg. I didn't realize that I bought double the dose, but really didn't think it was a big deal. Today my husband was saying that we are now taking way too much vitamin c. Can you ever have too much vitamin C?

I just asked my pharmasist this last week. I too noticed that their were different MG's and because I give my kids vitamin C I wanted to know. What she told me was...If you eat oranges and other citrus fruit as well as drink a glass of orange juice every day, a vitamin C isn't even required. If you still want to take a vitamin C then either take one 1000mg or two 500's. She said if I buy the 500's cut them in half for the kids. The good news is ..no you can't overdose on vitamin C, your body simply flushes out the extra...you only absorb what is needed. The biggest this to consider is your diet, if you are eating/drinking foods with the vitamin the worst thing your doing is waisting your money on the vitamins.

The recommended daily allowence for vitamin c is 500, but many people today take 1000 and even 1500. People today are into preventative ways of taking care of themselves. My husband has been into health and nutrition for over 30 years. He tells me that the harder you work, the more c you should take, because you sweat in out when you do physical labor. In the cold/flu seasons I know many of my friends double up just in case they would get sick.

You should not take more than 2000mg of vitamin C per day. If you are taking too much vitamin C you may begin to have diarrhea which is a sign to cut back the amount. The body does not store vitamin C and any excess amount you take that the body cannot use passed out in your waste products.

What ever you take in live if it too much of couse it will be poison, including vitamin, no matter it is vitamin C or what ever type, if in neutral source vitamin c come from orange, banana, papaya and lemon. So if you want to experiment what is happen try to take this fruit in big sum, you can see the effect. I'm not the doctor but i have some experince because of this vitamin effect is you take it so much, so some people also suggest me if want vitamin it's good if you get from the neutral resouce not from the tablet. Also please consult your doctor if you want to get any extra vitamin because our body not use all the vitamin type in same amount

No you can't take too much vitamin C. At least not in the sense you talking about. Your body will use what it needs and flush the rest. The vitamins you need to be careful of are A, D ,E , and K. They can be toxic if taken in high doses.
