never ate black beans and rice I always go for red beans and rice cajun style. If you can think of what it tastes like you can make up your own reciepe . In dishes that I like at a resturant I pick out the flavors I have tasted in it and then go make my own also my son comes up with good ones too

actually in my place i like "humba". it's like pork cooked with soy sauce, sugar, black beans, water, leaf of laurel, black pepper, azusena and etc. i have tasted a lot of versions of this "humba" and i only like it when it has less oil on it and it's not too sweet, salty or sour. when it comes to rice, my all time favorite is valenciana. I can live with it even if i will eat it for a week 3 times a day.

I get severla of my recipes at cdkitchen.com This is a favorite of ours but the have some others that are pretty good as well. Black Beans & Rice Recipe Ingredients: 3 tablespoons cooking oil 1 medium onion; chopped 2 medium sweet green/red peppers; seeded and diced * 2 cloves garlic; minced 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon crushed oregano 3 cups cooked black beans; drained 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon frozen orange juice concentrate 2 medium tomatoes; chopped salt and pepper to taste 2 tablespoons dark rum 3 cups cooked brown rice Directions: In a large heavy saucepan, heat the oil over moderate heat. Add onion and saute, stirring occasionally, about 3 minutes. Add peppers and garlic and cook 3 minutes longer. Add cumin and oregano and cook briefly, stirring. Add beans, lemon juice, frozen oj, tomatoes, and salt and pepper to taste and simmer, covered, for 5 minutes, adding a bit of stock, water, or tomato juice if needed to thin the mixture to desired consistency. Mix 1 cup of the bean mixture with rum and mash to a paste with the back of a fork. Add the puree to the pot, set over low heat, cover and simmer about 20 minutes. Serve over hot, cooked rice with sliced bananas on the side. * I usually substitute a 4-oz can of chopped mild green chilies
