The TN state govt.with the support and expertise of the world bank is soon to launch an interdepartmental effort to restore the much degraded cooum sub basin. A high level team of world bank experts and top PWD officials that undertook an aerial survey of entire stretch of river and given a nod for giving the sub basin top priority under the WB assisted irrigated agriculture modernization and water bodies restoration and management project. Starting the survey from the cooum mouth in north chennai and ending in takkolam near Arakkonam, the team assessed the spate of encroachments of the river bank and impediments to the flow of the river
