What would be a better gift for your child, toys or video games?

I would most prefer to give toys. Why? Because video games can rot the mind of a small child. No doubt. Although toys do have some negative things about it. Like, it can be messy to clean up. What do you think would be a better gift for a child? Toys or video games?

I prefer toys. Sure, my kids get video games, i'm not going to lie, but a better gift is usually a toy, because I think it's more educational and at least in my house we limit computer/video game/tv time, so they would be able to get alot more use out of a toy (like lego's ect). I would rather clean a mess, but thats just my opinion. Video games are ok, and if you think the child might like it more, go for it!

I'm going to agree completely with TheresaK. I would also choose books first, then outdoor toys. My third choice would be craft type items. Books are one of the best things for a child's mind. It is one of the few ways I would allow my child to spend a whole day doing. Out door activities provide exercise and fresh air, things sorely lacking for many children. My reason behind craft items is because I feel they are worthwhile things to do and can often help develop a skill. Even a very young child playing with play dough is learning shapes and colors. For older children the sense of accomplishment when they complete a project is priceless. To me many toys take away a lot of imagination from playtime. Video games (excepting the educational ones) are a waste of time that could be better spent on many other things.

It depends on the age of the child but I would go with toys because they can play many different ways with a toy and use their imagination rather than play a mind-numbing video game. Just my opinion. How old is the child or are you asking in general?
