Personally, I never had to wear a school uniform or follow a strict dress code. I don't really like the concept of uniforms/dress codes because they can be costly and make buying clothing for children difficult for parents depending upon the requirements.

In todays world, I think school should have a dress code. However, not all families can afford it. I think it should be dress pants and a shirt with the schools logo on the chest area, something nice, but not too crazy.

It is it about "today's world" that makes you agree with dress codes and school uniforms?

In the UK most schools have uniform policy! I do believe in it zuri as there are a lot of kids who cannot afford to wear designer clothes or keep in fashion and there have been many cases of bullying caused by this very reason! I also think that a uniform helps a school build a community spirit and shows a sense of pride! Here in Scotland the uniform usually consists of dark skirt or trousers, white polo shirt with school logo and a coloured sweatshirt with school logo, there is also the option of shirt and tie if the child prefers it! Some places the uniform can be quite expensive but not as expensive as having them wear everyday clothes to school! xxx

You make a good point, mummy, about how wearing uniforms builds a sense of community and pride within the school. I can see how it would cut down on the amount of bullying over clothing too. As with most things, school uniforms come with both positives and negatives.

It is the norm here for school rules to insist on the wearing of uniforms! You are right zuri there are pros and cons to wearing uniforms - I guess I am just used to my kids wearing them! I found a photo today of me at school (before we had uniform rules) and compared it to that of photos of my children in their uniform and I really did think they looked so much smarter! lol xxx

Yeah, you're right. They are very expensive, but I think they are alot better and it will be less laundry to do.

I'm just curious, how are uniforms alot better than regular clothes? As far as less laundry goes, I'm not sure I agree with that. I think there would actually be more laundry to do...clothes for school AND clothes to wear while not in school. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Here in the Mobile County Public School System, a uniform code is established and enforced; Personally for me and perhaps other parents, it saves on money because you don't have to buy a whole bunch of outfits vs buying about five to ten of the same outfit for school. Last year, I must have spent for both girls and such about $400; I also will say this; It don't hurt to start once school ends to perhaps exchange uniforms; When my kids had to come to Mobile from Mississippi after Katrina, they were given all they need for school and it was real nice. but for me, I am for the uniform code; It can get a bit tedious, but all in all, I like it.

It's good to get the opinion of a parent whose children follow a school dress code. Thanks for your input.
