Well first off you cannot give a scientific reason for belief in god one way or the other. God(s) are a creation/result of faith and not subject to empirical testing. I plead to being agnostic. I seriously doubt he/she/it, but I am driven by rationality as well, so there is no way to disprove God to me, for the reason in the first paragraph. The basis in my belief is a combination of things. My knowledge of history makes a literal translation of the Bible unthinkable, it simply does not fit. What used to be a miracle is now being commonly explained by the advancement of science. I know of no supporting evidence for any of the claims resulting out of Christianity that can actually be tested. Finally there is my problem with the concept of god as voiced by so many religions. Vengeful, fear, homage, worship and save are not words I associate with a concept of god. It makes him/her sound terribly petty for a supreme being. In the case of almost all modern religions god does not see fit to communicate with his subjects, unless you believe televangelists, that just doesn't sit right with me.
