I have friends who would ask..... can you make a dish too spicy???? Maybe you used the Dave's Insanity sauce when you meant to reach for the Tabasco. Or forgot to remove the seeds/ribs from those jalapenos. Whatever the reason, one bit and every pore in your head and neck are now sweating and your mouth is aflame. The solution: ~add more of the nonspicy ingredients (the obvious) ~add sugar or acids or dairy products ...... a can of crushed pineapples to your chili. It will virtually disappear while counteracting the heat. ...... a few squirts of lime can be added to a super spicy salsa or when appropriate some dairy in the form of sour cream or yogart to a spicy sauce. ~serve the dish with sour cream or cheese ~offer some chopped cilantro when serving. It seems to have a cooling effect on the mouth. ~add a bit of honey What tried and true methods do you have?

I know that by taking a potato and cutting it in half then putting the 2 halves in a soup or stew would help to soak some salt or spice from the dish, and have heard of things like honey and sugar can also counter heat. Sour cream and yoghurt also will cool down the heat in chilis.
