If my dog is NOT in heat and I bring her around a male dog.........

No. If you are around a sexy male it doesn't make you got into heat. (Or does it LOL)

No. Dogs are not induced ovulators (like cats or rabbits). Instead they are more like humans in that they are only fertile for a certain period of time during estrus (menstruation). Female dogs come into season every six months (or once a year if you are a Basenji). During the month that they are in estrus, there is a period of only a few days that they can actually conceive and whelp puppies. However the male dog's "dna" so-to-speak can live inside the female for 3 or more days so even if you miss the peak breeding time, leftover spermatazoa can still impregnate the female if she is bred in advance, although your chances are considerably less. Unless you are active in showing or working your dog in herding or other sporting events, and actively health testing your dog for genetic diseases like hip and elbow dysplasia then there is no reason why your dog should not be spayed.
