Why do you think that Exxon Mobil was the number one most profitable companies?

Recent hikes of oil has been continuous and it only seems to head toward momentum all the way toward this summer. Do you think it is really affected by the war with Iraq? Is it just plain politics? Or is it Exxon leading the pack to take advantage of the situation and upping the gas charge? I would lean toward blaming Exxon for the charge, but what do you think?
