Can anyone please tell me exactly what discrimination means?

I'm very curious as to what this really means and does it only apply to race. My child has Cp and receives in home therapy form Easter Seals well he did. He caught something in the hospital and was treated for it , however the doctors said that because this bacteria was colonized that he would have it forever. So all goes back to normal, we continue having therapy without problems and then i decided to bring in a child development specialist . So when she comes in I tell her that at one point he did have this , so she goes home and calls all these other therapists and tells them that what he had is airborne and very contagious.. the next day needless to say everyone of them quit. Now she definately exaggerated because what my son had was in the back of his nose and the only way that you could catch it was to literally pick his nose and wipe it in a cut. But anyway when we had him retested he didn't even have it. So is this discrimination? This is at least neglect, because of this I had to hire in independent therapies. He had to go very close to six months until I was able to replace these people. When they found out that he didn't have it they actually offered to come back. I said absolutely not, you bailed on him once you'll do it again. If they are so worried about catching something they need to find a new line of work. What do they expect in the healthcare field? Should i file a grievance with the state? Is this discrimination?

HI Dedicated, I can see how you would feel angry that they totally overreacted to what in the end was over nothing...but I don't think tthem inconviencing you actually qualifies under neglect or discrimination. Neglect means something like they left your child all alone in the house and there were no one else watching the child...or they didn't feed, or clothe, or wash the child...all of that is neglect...and you the parent has the responsibility to make sure your child is not neglected... Dddiscrimination means they wouldn't work for you because your child was a certaihn race or creed, or haddicapped in some way...but not because he/she was sick and they didn't want to expose themselves to a virus... I am way it is not very professional of them and I can see them not getting alot of business if that is how they deal with theri costumers...but for them I can understand that if they get sick, they don't work and most of those placewes don't have sick day pay, so no work, no pay and most of them can't afford even one day less pay,,,, caught between a rock and a heard place... I hope you find new caretakers that will be wonderful for your child!! Mithrae

After searching through policies for the company it states that they have no right to deny services based on any reason. Not race, not creed, not because of any certain disability, nor health condition. That is the whole purpose of the this organization. They signed a three year contract to take care of my child and to meet his medical needs,so therefore it is neglect. No where in there did it state, we will only take care of him if he's not sick. My child didn't have a virus, he had what is called (MRSA) and actually everyone has a little bit of this bacteria in their bodies, just when the doctors find it they treat you with a special kind of antibiotic. All it is , is a bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics. the form that my child had was really nothing and they had a 0.05% chance of catching this, all you had to do was normal everyday precautions, wash your hands, etc. They stood a better chance of catching the flu, and were explained this by my child's physician. Three of these therapists had been in my home for six months already so if they were going to catch it they would have way before now. These people quit because of selfishness, they definately didn't have their patients best interest at the top of the priority list. They quit and didn't even notify their supervisor, when I called to give them a peice of my mind she was irate at what her employees did. don't take this negatively, I just wanted to provide some insight as to why I feel this way. And I now have found all new therapists that bend over backwards for my child, they're wonderful. Thank you and have a good day.

yes this is a form of discrimination but more so plan neglect and it may be possible that you can get these people to pay for all the people that you had to have replaced and there incomes along with doctor bills and much else I am sure they don't want the news to get even a hint of this, you should look into sueing them them wanting to come back so soon is a sign saying they knew that they were wrong.yes you should file a grievance and if it was me I would look into sueing them for neglect for they sure are in a hurry to come back...this is not something that is easily overlooked in the health care system this disease isn't found every day so they should of taken a closer look or suggest another opinion.

I honestly never thought about alerting the news, they just had their telethon yesterday to raise money That would of been the perfect time to hit them where it hurts. Thank you.

You should definitely file a complaint against that witch and get her fired! What she did was ethically, morally and legally wrong. I'd be consulting a lawyer about it because it may or may not be considered discrimination where you live

Thank you so much. And yes a witch is the best description. I was definately thinking about filing a complaint, but I'd love nothing more than to have her license removed.
